A few more pictures of my new buck, also comparing him to Amalthea.
This guy is just ridiculously huge, even for a deer. He completely dwarfs ‘Thea (though, to be fair, she’s young and still had a bit of growing to do). They’re both of the same species, Odocoileus virginianus.
I obtained this buck for a great deal because of his early fall coat (less desirable than the thicker winter fur) and the various holes found in him, rendering him too much trouble to used as a shoulder mount. However, his head has very little damage and would make for a perfect mounted headdress. Now comes the task of finding a pair of thick, mature antlers to match this big boy. Let’s just hope he’s not too heavy for me to wear!
